A Couple Tracks From Montreal's Akido

Track Reviews

Akido Artist Image

After being sent a message by the artist and running into their Myspace, I figured it was worth a post due to the amount I have been listening to the tracks "Dancing In Chains" and "Beggin' (When I Was King)" by the Montreal based Akido.  Akido is the front for Kim Gaboury and his electronic rock assembly, though it is considered a seperate entity from his live performances.  The live setup consists of vocals, samplers, drums, and bass, and more information about the artists can be found at akidomusic.com.  The first track viewable below is the song "Dancing in Chains" from the album Blink.  When released, this song peaked as the highest instrumental of all time on the CBC Radio 3 top 30 charts at song number 3.  Though it may be a little early to say, this might be one of my favorite electronic tracks ever:

Akido has released two albums, one called Blink in 2007 and the other called Playtime from 2004.  They were released on the labels Nordique Music and Fullspin Music.  That being said, the second song viewable below is not released on either album.  "Beggin' (When I Was King)" was recently released this year, and is a remix of the Bob Gaudio and Frankie Vallie and the Four Season's track 'Beggin'" from the official Jersey Boys soundtrack.  The song remixed and released for an Adidas commercial, and was originally done by Pilooski.  In the video, the Akido remix plays with parts of the video.  Give it a listen, as I find Akido continuously creates unique and lively electronic soundscapes that do not fit the typical mold of any one particular electronic style:
