Album Reviews

Braze - Supremacy - 2007 - EMI

I have wanted to write a review on this album for a while now, as I first heard it when the lead track “Uh Shook” when it premiered on Youtube last summer. “Uh Shook” features our boy Sha with a fiery hot Indian sitar inspired loop, combined with uber smooth flow and ingenious wordplay like “Heads look so shocked, the way I raise eye brows my flow not unlike Botox, you’re boys finally winning like the Bow Sox, I’m diggin  the Clubs like a Proshop, Oh Stop.”

Almost as soon as I heard the Shad track I ran out and got myself a copy just for that song.  But when I picked up the album and listened to it, it was clear that this whole album is a unique Canadian Hip Hop treasure.

Braze is from Toronto, Ontario, and he is of sikh descent; this cultural influence shows throughout the entire 16 track album, entitled “Supremacy”.  Featuring Choclair, Saukrates, Shad, Brassmonk Frank N Dank, Arcee, 9th Uno, Thrust, Ken Masters, JD Era, Rochester AKA Juice, Drex Inkredible, Talk Sick, Adam Bomb and Remey. T Dot what up!!!! If you know nothing about what real Hip Hop in T Dot looks like look no further, this albums has plenty of Toronto rapping veterans like Choclair, Saukrates and Brassmonk. Regarless of whether or not you have heard of anyone from this album, you will want more tracks by each artist after you take your first listen through of Supremacy.

Braze production is nearly flawless, with truly unique samples used in each song. Braze even gives you two bonus remixes of Choclair and Saukrates tracks, and the Choclair remix is better than the original. This album is a true reflectios of our muti-cultural Canadian culture, because only here in Canada could this album be made with each performer giving their own touches upon Braze's awesomely unique sounds.

If you don’t listen to Canadian hip hop, grab this album and you will…Trust us!
