Coconut Records - Davy - 2009 - Young Baby Records

Album Reviews

Coconut Records is headed by actor Jason Schwartzman.  Jason known for his parts in Wes Anderson films such as Rushmore and the unreleased Fantastic Mr. Fox.   Coconut records latest project is a ten track LP called ‘Davy’.

The album came out in January 2009, and is a very well crafted eclectic musical compilation.  Most of the tracks are relatively short with only two songs breaking the three-minute mark, however I can’t say that there is a single track that I dislike.

Davy is thinking music.  The most ideal listening circumstances are on a beach during balmy overcast day.  A drink to sip on or a book to read may enhance your listening experience, however are certainly not necessary.  This is an album that will relax your mind and should not be listened to immediately before a mixed martial arts fight.  Most tracks feature slow catchy guitar cords and there is a heavy focus on the vocals.

Give Davy a listen when you have spare time.  This is an album that should be listened to in its entirety, and is certainly not the kind of album that just features ‘hit singles’.   Coconut records previous album was entitled Nighttiming and it contains on of my favourite Coconute Rcords tracks: ‘West Coast’.  The music video for this song is extremely ‘artsy’ and features skateboard legend Mark Gonzalez skateboarding in an art gallery.  Fans of Davy will undoubtedly like Nightiming, so I encourage you to check this album out as well.
