It'll take a couple listens through 'Colorways' by AzR to make sure your ears weren't kidding themselves: Yes, this album is completely free and although it delivers a prototypical progressive electro house punch, 'Colorways' sets itself apart with intelligent song construction, crystal clear production work, and a smooth flow from beginning to end. Though this is AzR's (aka Jordan Moser) first official release as an EDM artist, he is well broken in behind the boards as a producer.
AzR has been producing electronic music for about a year now, and during the day works in sound design and mixing with the Mixology studios in New York City. Over the last four years, AzR has produced projects in a variety of genres. He recently mixed a track for Chordashian, a DJ/producer duo spinning at Electric Zoo this year, while he is in the process of mastering a track for NYC DJ Alex Goodchild. His start as a musician and producer goes even further back. As a musician, AzR has been involved in various projects since his days in high school. Much of the instrumentation on Colorways was done by AzR, and he sings on the track Colorways (Fall).
The fifth track on Colorways entitled 'Sinking Friendships' is a personal fave from this selection of songs, and features a sample from Sigur Ros' Jonsi off of the album Go Do. When asked why he has begun working on EDM projects, AzR responded:
"I like EDM because it transports you to a new space. The sonic possibilities are endless, and unlike other genres you can literally go where no producer has gone before in terms of creating new sounds and new kinds of songs, given that the technology itself is so new. I also love the textural qualities of a lot of the sounds, and the new realms it can take you too. It's also a great community full of people who are really open to new kinds of music."
Drawing inspiration from acts like Gabriel & Dresden, Deadmau5, Mark Knight, Marco V, and Kaskade for the album 'Colorways,' AzR is well set for more releases and upcoming shows in the New York City area. The name AzR - pronounced "azure" like the color blue - is based off of an older acoustic track written by AzR called "Azure Blue".
